In a stunning upset, the USA's U20 MNT defeated Brazil 2-1 to place themselves at the top of their bracket. This was Brazil's second loss and knocked them out of World Cup competition.
The US, lead by team captain Freddie Adu, has been playing at top form, defeating Poland 6-1 and tying Korea 1-1. They now move on to play Uruguay in the quarterfinals.
Tim Ward, a former Wisconsin ODP player, wears jersey #2 on the squad and is a defender. He has played in two matches with a total of 91 minutes played.
This is the USA's 11th overall and 6th consecutive appearance at the U-20 showpiece. Their fourth-place at Saudi Arabia 89 remains their best finish to date. At the last World Cup, at Netherlands 2005, the US were eliminated in the Round of 16 by Italy. This time around, the US is playing very well and hope to make it through to the semi-finals.
