After a 2-2 tie with Korea, the US came out blazing to advance to the World Cup quarterfinals against the women from England.
England had a tough battle in Group A tying Germany and Japan before roundly defeating Argentina 6-0.
The US got to the quarterfinals by overcoming Sweden 2-0 and Nigeria 1-0. The team got strong support from Abby Wambach who scored both goals against Sweden. Lori Chalupny's goal was all that was needed to dispatch Nigeria.
Leslie Osborne #12, a former Wisconsin ODP player, got her first World Cup start in the game versus Sweden. Her strong performance earned her the starting nod against Nigeria as well.
