What is the Center for Excellence?
The Wisconsin Youth Soccer Center for Excellence is a program created to aid in player development. This center will provide an enjoyable and enriching environment for players who have shown a disposition and ability for “taking players on”, featuring 1v1 skills helpful to excel at soccer but hard to learn and not always taught to all our players.

Who is Eligible?
Any U10 or U11 soccer player is eligible for participation in the Center for Excellence. There is no selection or invitation process for this program. However, if the number of players interested in participating in the Center for Excellence exceeds the number of places available in a program district, selections will be made. This determination will be made at the discretion of the WI Youth Soccer Directors of Coaching.

Interested players are encouraged to register online.

Note: Players with birthdates before January 1, 1998 are encouraged to participate in the Developmental ODP Program.

What do Center for Excellence Participants do?
The Center for Excellence features regular meetings in the listed program districts. (Central WI, Madison, Milwaukee, Northeast WI, Northwest WI, and Waukesha) The program will be comprised of nine contacts, (eight training dates plus one festival), with boys and girls trained together. Individual player’s technique will be emphasized with sessions focusing upon 1v1 moves; turns, shielding, striking the ball, short passing and small group play. Sessions will be scheduled based on the availability of staffing and suitable facilities.

What are the Goals of the Center for Excellence?

  • To teach and refine individual skills with children from as many different clubs as possible.
  • To challenge the children to take their newly acquired or perfected skills back to their club, and assist their teammates in learning them.
  • To teach young players to make decisions in a game-like setting using the appropriate techniques, thereby improving their technical development.

What are the Benefits of Participating in the Center for Excellence?

  • This developmental program will be “player centered” and not “coach controlled”. Specifically, the teaching focus concentrates on those “individual skills” that are used most by players and needed to excel in soccer.
  • Development as an individual player.
  • The opportunity to train and play with players outside of one’s club.
  • Quality instructions from nationally licensed coaches.
