Wisconsin Olympic Development Programs (ODP) for 2011-2012
There will be a few changes in Wisconsin Olympic Development Program for 2011-2012. A description of each age groups programming with associated costs, follows.
2000 and 2001 birth years
This is Wisconsin’s developmental age program and covers a player’s first two years in ODP. There are no “cuts” at this age group. Trainings are primarily geared to improving a player’s skill set. Trainings consist of five 90 minute dates in the fall, followed by an all district event, five 90 minute trainings in winter followed by an all district event, and five 90 minute trainings in spring followed by an all district event. Fall and Spring trainings are outside on Mondays. Winter trainings are indoors on Sundays. You may sign up for any combination of fall, winter, or spring, ($135.00 per season), but you must attend one session to be eligible for regional camp in July of 2012. Trainings are done within the WYSA districts. Milwaukee, Madison, Appleton (possibly LaCrosse, Stevens Point and Bayfield, depending on registrations.) All district events are where Wisconsin ODP brings all the developmental players from around the state to one location. Light trainings, then small sided games, and finally full games take place to see how players compare and to introduce them to other district players and coaches that they may be going to camp with next July. We have All Districts in fall (Brookfield), winter (Madison) and spring (Fond du Lac). Everyone participating in developmental trainings for that season is invited. Parents may attend or car pool. It’s more of a fun event and not overly competitive. All 2000 and 2001 players that participate in ODP developmental are given the opportunity to attend a four day camp next July.
Tryouts for camp will not begin for 2000 birth year players until next August 2012. 2001 birth year players will have tryouts for camp in August of 2013. (Cost for camp $450.00)
1997/1998/1999 birth years
The intermediate age group programming consists of a tryout in late summer. (Cost $60) From those tryouts two pools of approximately 30 players are chosen, (one pool of 1997s), an “older” group which roughly consists of January to June birthdays, and a “younger” group which roughly consists of July to December birthdays. These players train from November to April, for 90 minutes about two times per month, on Sundays, mostly in Madison and Milwaukee. They may also participate in a weekend indoor event at the McClain Center in Madison and at a weekend indoor tournament in Schaumburg, IL during March. (Cost $360) In April of 2012, the pools of 30 players are reduced to 18, which is the maximum number of players that Region II allows any state to send to camp. Those older and younger teams attend regional camp in July and represent Wisconsin in games against 14 other state associations. (Cost of camp- approx. $500 + transportation)
1995/1996 birth years
As these players are beginning to look forward to post high school and college soccer, they begin their ODP experience with a tryout in late summer. (Cost $60)
From this tryout a pool team of approximately 30 players is chosen. These players train from November to April, for 90 minutes about two times per month, on Sundays, mostly in Madison and Milwaukee. They may also participate in a weekend indoor college showcase event in March and possibly at a weekend tournament in June. (Cost $360)
Players who participate will be eligible for recommendation to regional team coaches and would attend camp on invitation of the region.
Reminder: Winter ODP developmental session registration is now open! Please register before November 28 to give us proper staffing and resources. Wisconsin’s developmental age program covers a player’s first two years in ODP. This year developmental players are those born in 2000 and 2001. There are no “cuts” at this age group. Trainings are primarily geared to improving a player’s skill set. Now that fall sessions have been completed, remaining trainings consist of five 90 minute trainings in winter followed by an all district event, and five 90 minute trainings in spring followed by an all district event. Fall and spring trainings are outside on Mondays. Winter trainings are indoors on Sundays. You may sign up for any combination of fall, winter, or spring, ($135.00 per season), but you must attend one season of sessions to be eligible for regional camp in July of 2012. Trainings are done within the WYSA districts. Attend the sessions that are closest to your home. Registration for the Winter Developmental sessions (for those that participated in fall) is now open at: https://ssl.hammersoccer.com/wisconsin/eODP/SessionRegistrationPre.asp. General information about ODP is available at: http://www.wiyouthsoccer.com/Left_Navigation/Programs/ODP/about.htm
ODP is primarily geared to those players with aspirations and the desire to compete and play soccer during and after their high school experience. The program becomes progressively more competitive with smaller and smaller pools and teams. Only those players with the will and desire to compete will succeed. Trainings are conducted by the highest level of coaching available, with many college coaches on staff. Regional staff is very similar. Trainings are geared to make the individual a better player, as opposed to team trainings at the club level which are often more geared to competitions and matches. While the purpose of ODP is to train the individual, players are still required to participate at the club level within WYSA in order to participate in ODP.
Registration for new players is now open at: https://ssl.hammersoccer.com/wisconsin/eODP/RegistrationStart.asp

WI ODP Player Traveling to Germany
(June 27, 2011) – Congratulations to Wisconsin’s Alexandra Melin (Verona, WI) as the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (US Youth Soccer ODP) has named 17 Under-19 players to play friendly matches against German professional teams and to attend Women's World Cup games in July. The team will play three games in Germany and take in three Women's World Cup matches.
"This is such a unique opportunity for these young players to play against some of the best in the world and to watch the absolute best players in the world," John Sutter, US Youth Soccer president. "These young women are quickly becoming valuable contributors to their college teams and will hopefully be making an impact on the national team in the coming years. This trip with fellow regional team players is certainly good preparation for that and this trip highlights the international experience offered from US Youth Soccer ODP."
The team represents a balanced roster from all four regions, with three players from US Youth Soccer Region I, four each from Region II and Region III, and five from Region IV. The journey to Germany began in December 2010, when 45 players were called into a training camp at the IMG academy in Bradenton, Fla. The 17 players named will field an All-Star team to take on professional German sides and take in highly anticipated matches in the Women's World Cup.
The team will be coached by John Byford, head women's soccer coach at Villanova University, and by Phil Nielsen, coach with Team Chicago Soccer Club. Both men bring years of coaching experience at various levels, including with state and regional US Youth Soccer ODP teams.
The US Youth Soccer ODP U-19 All-Stars will take on Bundesliga team Sporfreunde Siegen, and FC Magdeburger and FC Lubars of the Bundesliga second division.
Of the three games the All-Stars will attend in Germany, two will feature the US Women's National Team. The first is the USA v Colombia in Sinsheim, July 2. The other US match the team will attend is the USA v Sweden match, July 6 in Wolfsburg. The All-Stars will also watch the Brazil v Sweden game from the stands at Wolfsburg on July 3.
Between time on the pitch and time in the stands, the All-Stars will benefit from guided tours of more than five German cities, including Frankfurt, Siegen and Berlin. Read more >>
