2010 AGM

WYSA Hosts Another Successful AGM
On March 13, 2010 WYSA conducted the annual business of the association.  One key item discussed was the 2010-2011 budget, which included a revised player registration fee structure and a new membership rebate program designed to provide financial reward to clubs who are successful in increasing overall membership and bringing in new members to WYSA.  The budget was approved as presented.  (For more information, these items may be found in the AGM agenda packet.)

We recognized our 2009 Coaches of the Year, Derek Bell (formerly of Stevens Point SC) and John Kaiser (Glacial Drumlin United SC) as well as Jane McCormick, our 2009 TOPSoccer Buddy of the Year.

Fox Valley Unified SC presented a check representing over $62,000 in potential grants to support WYSA scholarships and TOPSoccer efforts.  The funds are anticipated through restitution being repaid to the now defunct organization.  The club will be setting up an endowment committee to receive and consider funding requests that meet their criteria.

The membership also elected Mary Jo Parkins (Appleton SC) as the new WYSA Treasurer, replacing Kurt Sonnentag after four years of service.  Reelected to the board were Terry Donini (Vice President), Toby Whipple (WSA Representative) and Arlyn Clarksen (WSA Representative).

Perhaps a highlight of the meeting was the presentation by USSF Vice President Mike Edwards, who provided updates on the United States’ bid for the 2018/2022 World Cup and the USSF Year in Review through video.  WYSA President Peter Mariahazy also showed the 2010 US Youth Soccer video presented at this year’s Adidas Workshop in Ft. Worth, featuring lots of exciting soccer from across the country at many USYSA events including the National Championships held in Lancaster, Mass.

WYSA introduced our inaugural Wisconsin Soccer Learning University which provided educational seminars on current topics of interest, including League One (our player registration and league scheduling software), financial planning, futsal, academy soccer training programs, how soccer is organized and how WYSA fits into the global picture, board governance and WYSA state league placement policy.
